Meet the Founders
Andrew and Lucy Amukowa are the founders of Rush organisation which includes Rush Academy schools. They met and lived in Kibera slums, Nairobi and that became the genesis of their desire to serve the community. Both of them had come from traumatising backgrounds. Andrew was an orphan who had lost both parents at an early age which made education for him really difficult to attain. Lucy was raised by her poor grandmother who rescued her from the torture inflicted by her step mother. Unfortunately, when her grandmother passed away, she was young and had no idea she was dead. She stayed with the corpse in the house for a whole week before people came.
The pain and the struggles they both experienced in their lives left them with a burning passion to protect needy in the community and be a voice to oppressed. It is this drive that moved them to come up with the RUSH organization when they moved to Kakamega in 2001. Over the years, the organization has always scaled up to meet the ever-growing demand of poverty and lack of education amongst the minority and less the privileged in society.
